Released in 2022, Klondike is a Ukrainian drama that follows the story of a pregnant woman living near the Ukrainian-Russian border in 2014 during the Russo-Ukrainian War and the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17. Written and directed by Maryna Er Gorbach, the film stars Oxana Cherkashyna in the lead role. Klondike was well received by audiences and critics alike, winning numerous awards at film festivals around the world. It was Ukraine’s entry for best international feature film at the 2022 Academy Awards. Klondike’s director Marina Er Gorbach won the Directing Award for the World Cinema: Dramatic category at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival, and Klondike film won 2nd Place at the 2022 Berlin International Film Festival.
Klondike (2022) Synopsis: The story of a Ukrainian family living on the border of Ukraine and Russia during the start of the war in 2014. Irka refuses to leave her house as her village is captured by armed forces. Shortly afterward, they find themselves at the center of an international air crash catastrophe.
Director: Marina Er Gorbach studied at the Kyiv National I.K. Karpenko-Kary Theater, Cinema and Television University (Ukraine) and the Andrzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing (Poland). Since 2017 she has been a member of the European Film Academy. Her latest movie Klondike was awarded at Sundance Film Festival & Berlinale International Film Festival.
